Scotlands People
This is the essential site for researching Scottish ancestors. It is a project of the National Archives and contains all the available birth, marriage, and death records of Scots from as early as 1553 and much more.
This is my great great grandmother’s birth registration - notice that it was erroneously entered by the priest as “McKey”. When searching for records you often have to use multiple spellings and wildcards to catch people. She is 7 up from the bottom of the left page.
Recently the site added Kirk Session records from most of the parishes in Scotland. To read the early ones you need a course in paleography but the later ones are fascinating to look through.
