Update to the update: The Clarks of Bendochy

David Clark c 1700 married Agnes Anderson of Alyth in 1737. The marriage record shows that David lived/worked at Polcalk Farm in Bendochy. Polcalk is still a working farm and has B-sited buildings dating back to the time when David Clark lived there.

David’s first son Alexander was born at Chapelton Farm in 1738 which is a few fields north and west of Polcalk.

I’ve found six generations of Clarks who lived in this area from about 1700 to 1900 which is as far back as I can go as there aren’t records before that. The Clarks were farmers from the Hill of St Fink in Bendochy.

My great great great grandfather William Clark c 1813 was a younger son of a big family so moved away to find work and settled in the Meigle area where he was a master gardener and “pendicler” which meant he rented a few acres for subsistence farming to feed his family.
